The City of Charleston’s meetings for this week cover a variety of topics including arts and history, traffic and transportation, the Gaillard Center project, and a retreat for the Charleston Citywide Local Development Corporation Board of Trustees.

On Mon. Sept. 8, the Committee on Real Estate meets at 4:15 p.m. in the conference room on the first floor of City Hall. The Board of Appeals Under the International Building Code meets at 4:30 p.m. at 75 Calhoun St. At 5:15 p.m. City Council will go over the Gaillard Center Project Review at the George Street entrance of the Gaillard Center construction site.

The first meeting on Tuesday is the Sustainability Advisory Committee at 11 a.m. in the third-floor meeting room at 75 Calhoun St. At 3:30 p.m., the Committee on Public Works and Utilities will meet in the second-floor conference room in City Hall. Downstairs at City Hall, the Committee on Traffic and Transportation meets at 3:45 p.m. in the conference room on the first floor. For the rest of the afternoon, meetings are held in the Council Chamber of City Hall. The Audit Committee meets at 4 p.m., followed by the Ways and Means at 4:30, and at 5 p.m. City Council holds a general meeting to end the day.

City Council will address a resolution in support of the Charleston World Heritage Coalition at the general meeting on Tuesday. The goal is to push for the inclusion of a number of buildings on the Charleston peninsula as World Heritage Sites. Potential sights to be approved by UNESCO include City Hall, Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Hebrew Orphan Society, and the Old Slave Mart. City Council will read over bills at the general meeting as well. One ordinance would allow Charlestowne Neighborhood Residential Parking Boundaries to include a section of Broad St. Another standout ordinance proposes the presentation of documents by the mayor necessary for the city to become an accommodation party for the mortgage placed on the Gibbes Museum, in order to help accommodate their renovations.

The Charleston Citywide Local Development Corporation Board of Trustees meets on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. for a meeting and their annual retreat at Lowndes Grove River House at 266 St. Margaret Street. The Quality of Life Subcommittee: Tourism Management will meet at 10 a.m. at the Historic Charleston Foundation. At 4:30 p.m., the Board of Architectural Review will come together at 75 Calhoun St while the Commission of Arts and History will meet at the Turn of the Battery at the intersection of East Battery St. and Murray Blvd.

On Thursday, the Tourism Management/Enforcement Subcommittee: Tourism Management Plan Advisory Committee holds the first meeting at the Historic Charleston Foundation at 8 a.m. The Special Events Subcommittee: Tourism Management Plan Advisory Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. in the Business Services Conference Room at 75 Calhoun St. followed by the last meeting of the week, Design Review Board, at 5 p.m. at 75 Calhoun St.
