We got the sad scoop this morning that Ike and Alice’s (formerly Ike’s Hot Chicken & Fish at 616 Meeting St.) has closed. Neighboring restaurant Hello My Name is … BBQ confirmed the news. “They moved out last week,” Ryner Burg, co-owner of Hello told CP.

The fried chicken joint opened in December 2012 and was well-known amongst the Local 616 crowd for its extremely reasonable dinner meals with fixings like collards, cornbread, coleslaw, and chicken all for $7.99. Fresh pies and cakes often stood at the register tempting take-out guests. And though the wait generally took longer than recommended, in our experience it was always worth it. “They’d been doing well with Sunday dinners,” says Burg, who added that large church groups seemingly kept the space busy on the end of the weekend. A number could not be found to reach owners Ike and Alice for comment.

As for the space’s future, we’re told a new tenant has already been given the keys to move in.
