Late Friday evening, North Charleston Police Department investigators arrested North Charleston resident Timothy Lamar Drayton on a charge of murder in last Tuesday’s shooting on Hassell Street. Drayton has several previous criminal charges on his record including guilty pleas for crack cocaine possession and a gun violation.

At the time of the shooting last Tuesday morning, police reported that no witnesses were able to give a description of the person who had shot 33-year-old Chad Jerome Bradley multiple times. But late Friday night, police announced that they had arrested Drayton and charged him with Bradley’s murder.

According to Charleston County court records, Drayton previously pleaded guilty to unlawful carrying of a pistol and received a sentence of one year of probation in December 2008. In November 2009 he was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, later pleading guilty and receiving a two-year probation sentence. In February 2010 he was charged with a probation violation, but the case was later dismissed. In December 2010 he was charged with possession of a stolen pistol and unlawful carrying of a pistol, but the charges were later dismissed. In July 2011 Drayton was charged with armed robbery, first-degree burglary, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, but a jury found him not guilty on all counts.

Bradley, the victim in last Tuesday’s shooting, had also been found guilty of multiple crack cocaine distribution and trafficking charges dating as far back as 1999.

According to North Charleston police, Drayton’s address is listed as being on Woodlawn Avenue in North Charleston, but court records indicate that Drayton is homeless. He is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 20, 2015.
