The SC Highway Patrol released video of last week’s late-night pursuit of Berkeley County Sheriff Wayne DeWitt that resulted in his being charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. After a state procurement official called off a state testing contract awarded last year, saying procedures weren’t followed, the Budget and Control Board, which awarded the contract, and ACT, the company which got the contract, are saying that the official didn’t have the authority to reduce the $58 million contract to a one-year deal and put out a new request for proposals. The Supreme Court of the United States may take up a Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that says there is no constitutional right for gay couples to marry. Observers believe that with differing decisions coming from different circuits, the Court may be more likely to take up the question on Friday even after passing on other appeals in October.
