Have we mentioned we’re getting a new Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ near the City Paper office? OK, fine. We may have brought the news up once before, and we will be the first to admit we’ve been a little barbecue-crazed as of late. But when you work in a neighborhood with limited lunch-time options (all due respect to our favorites: Martha Lou’s, Tattooed Moose, and Santi’s), the news of a new lunch place within walking distance is pretty damn exciting. And today we got our first look at Home Team’s 126 Williman St. location.
Construction has just begun, but the blueprints were on hand for a “hello neighbors” gathering Home Team hosted. The barbecue spot is retrofitting an existing building into a 4,500-square-foot restaurant. The new space will feature what we’re told will be the biggest bar in the city, a 57-foot-space along one inside wall. But the party won’t be just inside. Outside stages for live musical guests will line the lot shaded by a huge tree.
As for the food, expect your favorites. Owner Aaron Siegel was on hand today dishing up the good stuff — brisket, pulled pork, slaw, and mac and cheese. The only thing missing were the pain killer-esque frozen Game Changers, but we suppose we have to get a little work done this afternoon.
Home Team BBQ is still hoping for a Labor Day opening, but with the way Charleston permitting and BAR processing moves, later in the fall might be a better guess.
