North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey doesn’t mince words when it comes to hockey or barbecue. In a video posted by the South Carolina Stingrays this morning, Summey issued a challenge to the mayor of Allen, Texas, home of the Stingrays’ opponent in the upcoming Kelly Cup.
Appearing at the Junction on Spruill Avenue, Summey introduced himself to Mayor Steve Terrell, then promptly puts him on notice, saying, “We’re going to beat the hell out of you.”
The terms of Summey’s wager are clear. If the Allen Americans win, Summey said he’ll ship Terrell a whole hog. “Head on, head off, doesn’t matter. The only difference is the smile.” If the Rays win, Terrell sends Summey a whole cow.
The Stingrays travel to Allen, which sits just north of Dallas, over the weekend for the start of the ECHL’s Kelly Cup Finals. The Rays have won the best-of-seven title three times before, last in 2009.
