American Ninja Warrior competitor attempting to flip over 13 people tonight

UPDATE: Kyle Johnson announced via Facebook that he had to postpone tonight’s flip due to adverse weather conditions. “It would make [an] awesome video to do this flip in rainy conditions but also dangerous and I definitely don’t want anyone traveling in this weather to see me!” he wrote. “I promise to keep everyone posted!”

Local breakdancer Kyle “K’Otic” Johnson will attempt to do a front flip over a row of 13 people in Marion Square on Tues. June 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Johnson, who has been wowing crowds for years with the crews Dancing on Air and the Missing Links, recently traveled to Orlando, Fla., to compete in a qualifying round for the athletic competition show American Ninja Warrior. The Orlando episode premieres Monday night on NBC, and Johnson says he’ll be sending footage from tonight’s event to the show’s producers to use as promotional footage.

Johnson says his personal record is front-flipping over 11 people, and the world record, according to recordsetter.com, is 12. So how is he feeling about tonight’s acrobatic feat?

“A little nervous, not too much,” Johnson says. “I would be more nervous if I was doing this stunt with just the 13 people and there was nobody there, but having the crowd support and everybody hyping me up and the music and everything, it’s going to add to my adrenaline and hopefully push me further.”

Johnson says he plans to set up near the fountain at Calhoun and King streets around 6 or 6:30 and dance for a few minutes with his crew members before moving the crowd onto the grass closer to the middle of Marion Square. He says he has already selected nine people to jump over, but you can volunteer to be one of the other four if you’re willing to sign a media release form for the TV show.
