Early this morning after plenty of parliamentary maneuvering, rhetorical posturing, and attempted amendments, the state House of Representatives cast a deciding vote to remove the Confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds. Gov. Nikki Haley will reportedly sign the bill today and the flag will come down tomorrow morning. (We’ll have more on that soon.) Source: NYT, P&C
The vote will bring the flag off the pole next to the Confederate soldiers’ monument in front of the capitol, but it may also open doors for additional postseason NCAA basketball regionals or bowl games in South Carolina. Source: The State

This week’s mid-air collision between a military F-16 and a local Cessna private plane that claimed the life of Michael and his son Joseph Johnson was the second tragedy to strike the family in a week. Over the weekend, Michael Johnson’s brother and sister-in-law were found killed in their Missouri home and their 16-year old grandson was charged with their murder. Source: AP
