Labor Day has come and gone, but we at the City Paper thought it would still be worthwhile to devote a cover story to the working men and women of Charleston. So we decided to revamp an old feature called Working Life in which we spotlight local workers — often with unusual, difficult, or thankless jobs — talking about what they do to pay the bills.

The following stories are taken directly from interviews and told in the first person with minimal or no editing of the subjects’ natural speech patterns. Keep up the good work, Charleston.
