Thomas Ravenel, star of the Charleston-based reality TV show Southern Charm, has released a photo of the injuries he sustained from an attack that occurred around midnight Sept. 7.
According to an incident report from the Charleston Police Department, Ravenel was head-butted by a disruptive patron inside Republic Garden and Lounge. Police were able to locate a suspect who was identified by Ravenel and other witnesses at the bar as the attacker.
Josh Royal, who says he witnessed the attack, described Ravenel’s injuries, saying, “It was serious. His eye was completely swollen shut.”
Reached for comment regarding the incident, Ravenel took time while horseback riding to say he didn’t want the attack to become a big story, but now that it has, he wants to set the record straight. According to Ravenel, he was persuaded by the attacker’s girlfriend to not pursue criminal charges, but he did want the man to spend the night in jail to think about his actions. Ravenel says the confusion over his wishes for how the attacker should be punished was the result of a misunderstanding between himself and the police.
