The first Charleston Art Explosion, an art exhibit featuring the works of nine local artists as well as live music, will hit Gage Hall on Fri. Oct. 16 from 6-9 p.m. Heart Bernados, Melissa Bridges, Robyn Daniel, Lynn Dugan, Jennifer Koach, Susan Lowcavage, Debbie Mather, Heidi Phillips, and Alison Ross will display their varied works ranging from acrylic paintings to wire taxidermy. JoJo Walls, best known as the guitarist/bassist for Momma and the Redemption Band, will provide live music.
“It’s a way for newer artists to show their work. And it’s very affordable,” says Dugan, the coordinator of the event. Dugan, an abstract artist, recently, as she says, “re-emerged,” as an active artist and saw the need for a space for artists to exhibit their work. Depending on how this first session goes Dugan will try to organize an art show once every quarter, enlisting the works of 10 new artists each time. Dugan wants a range of artists to benefit from the exhibit so she plans on showcasing someone from every possible medium — i.e. more handmade jewelry and wire creatures and not so many landscape paintings.
