If you’re suffering from withdrawal since “Parks and Recreation” wrapped up in February, have no fear, Aziz is back in a brand new Netflix original series he co-created called, “Master of None.”
That’s right: Available right now on your nearest Netflix-capable internet machine are 10 episodes of the new show created and written by Ansari (pride of Bennettsville, S.C.) and P&R writer Alan Yang. The show, which is about an early-30s Indian-American actor, played by Ansari, living in New York. There’s already a lot of chatter on the interwebs about the new series, in which Ansari weaves in some of his Indian-stereotype-spoofing stand-up with his latest interest, romance.
Washington Post TV critic Hank Stuever even calls the show “Millennial Louie,” for its sober, but decidedly optimistic introspection:
“Adhering to a Woody Allen aesthetic, both men write and star in shows that are about a version of themselves and their worldviews. But halfway through “Master of None’s” 10 episodes (which begin streaming Friday), I realized that I was binging — and straight-up enjoying — a show that could just as easily be called “Millennial Louie.” The differences are as striking as the similarities.”
The New York Times and The Verge also draw parallels between “Master” and “Louie.”
