By 2017, Charleston Beer Exchange will have a new name and a new home. That’s the word from owner Scott Shor. According to a press release, Shor and his Edmund’s Oast partners have decided to move the Exchange Street brew hub to Edmund’s Half Mile North HQ.
“It is pretty wonderful to be able to bring our popular beer store closer in proximity to Edmund’s Oast Brewpub and our anticipated offsite brewery, Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company,” he says in the release.
CBX will become Edmund’s Oast Exchange and move into a 2,000-square-foot, two-story space. Andrew Gould, the designer and owner of New World Byzantine will handle the design. With the added space will come more beer — 1,000 different varieties, in fact. The new site will also be the only place to buy Edmund’s Oast in-house beer.
In addition, Edmund’s Oast Exchange will sell wine, glassware, and charcuterie and will be lead by Certified Cicerone Brandon Plyler, former Glass Onion co-owner Sarah O’Kelley, and Mark Sahara.
While this new liquid playground sounds promising, we’d be lying if we didn’t admit we’re sad to see the Exchange Street spot go. It was one of the few excuses for peasants like ourselves to go South of Broad.
