The new Greenville campaign office of a fictional candidate for president might get more visitors this weekend than some real-life contenders’ early state outposts. A pop-up HQ for Frank Underwood from the Netflix drama House of Cards opened today in the Upstate. Sadly, the candidate himself was not on hand.
Open only until Saturday, FU ’16 headquarters hosted VIPs and media today during an event to hype up the series’ fourth season, which drops on March 4. Netflix also published a new trailer for the show today. CBS News will host a debate between the Republican candidates in Greenville on Saturday night.
Complete with a faux campaign stage and backdrop bearing the slogan, “Anything for America,” visitors were even able to sit down at Underwood’s desk and grab some FU campaign collateral. In the show, Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, begins his political ascent as a Democratic congressman from Gaffney.
But fans of the show demurred on Underwood’s chances in the state’s primary when asked by the Greenville News. “He’s a little sketch,” one visitor remarked. Uh, yea.
Passers-by queued up down the block for the event, posing for selfies and displaying their FU support.
In Greenville this weekend? The “office” is open today until 11 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. until midnight.
