A long time ago, in a Charleston far, far away — fall 2014 that is — we penned a blog all about Seed, a restaurant planned for a crumbling St. Philip St. Charleston single house. Then we heard nothing. In fact, we were beginning to think the field had gone fallow and that the Seed concept was no more, until last week when co-owner Jill Downer emailed. Turns out Seed isn’t only still happening, Downer and her brother, chef Macready Downer, are a week out from starting construction on 223 St. Philip St., and they’re hosting a pop-up tomorrow night at The Faculty Lounge that will reveal what Jill says is a good taste of what’s to come at Seed.
“The is the second pop-up we’ve done. We did one in December at Cocktail Club,” says Jill. “We’re trying to do them every two months and we’re planning for an early fall opening.” The siblings are taking over the entire bar and will have two seatings, one at 6 p.m. and one at 7:30 p.m. Late night snacks will be offered beginning at 8:30 p.m. with whatever is leftover from the dinner. Here’s what’s on the menu:
Broccoli soup, cheddar foam, charred broccoli stems, anchovy bread crumbs
Caramelized onion agnolotti, beef short rib, white beans, golden raisins
Tuna ceviche, avocado, lime, jalapeño, puff sorghum
Roasted beets + apples, caramelized yogurt, hazelnuts, mint
Pork belly, bacon broth, Asian salad
Fois gras torchon, macadamia nuts, shortbread, johnny cakes, jam
Late-night additions:
“Crack” potato poutine
Pork belly bahn mi
Whole wheat waffle, chicken + bacon mousseTickets to Seed’s Faculty Lounge Takeover are $30 and can be purchased here.
