On Tues. May 10 at 12 p.m., Nigel Redden, the general director of Spoleto USA, will speak at Blue Bicycle Books’ Charleston author series, held at Halls Chophouse. He’s discussing Spoleto 40, an aptly titled book about the history of the arts fest since its inauguration in 1977.
Written by classical music critic, author, and journalist Allan Kozinn, the book discusses the festival’s past through its various trials and tribulations, including battles over the festival’s direction. Kozinn covered Spoleto for Charleston’s News and Courier as its guest overview critic in 1981 and 1982, and he returned several times over the years to cover the festival for the New York Times.
Published by Evening Post Books, the 224 page hardcover retails at $70 and is currently available for pre-order online at eveningpostbooks.com.
