Need some crab, shrimp, or squid for your Mother’s Day or Kentucky Derby festivities this weekend? Then head on over to Mt. Pleasant’s new Saturday morning seafood market. The market’s soft opening was last Saturday, but Grace Edwards of Shem Creek Fisheries says the official market will open at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

“We’re going to have 400 pounds of product,” she says. While shrimpers are still only allowed to fish 3-miles off the coast, Edwards says there will be fresh shrimp on hand and four different fishermen will be represented.

“We’re hoping to have the official shrimp season begin soon and there are a couple of boats getting repairs, like the Winds of Fortune, but we will be there,” Edwards says.

The Mt. Pleasant seafood market will be open at the current farmers market location at Moultrie Middle School (645 Coleman Blvd.) until noon every Saturday through the end of shrimp season.
