Last week Germaine Jenkins, founder and CEO of North Charleston’s Fresh Future Farm, began selling an assortment of basic groceries and fresh produce at 2008 Success St. Jenkins accepts cash, credit, and SNAP. The store will be open from Tues.-Sat., 10 a.m.-7 p.m.

The Chicora-Cherokee neighborhood has been without a full service grocery store since Winn-Dixie closed in 2005, marking it a longtime food desert. As Fresh Future Farms grows, it will offer farm tours, cooking demos, and gardening classes. Jenkins also hopes to hire residents to help run FFF.
