[image-1]It’s not often I tear up at the news of a restaurant’s closure, but I was genuinely misty-eyed when Perig Goulet, chef and owner of La Fourchette, closed his King Street restaurant in 2013. For eight years, Goulet had made comforting French peasant food a romantic evening out in his tiny brick storefront where he oversaw candlelit dinners filled with duck-fat-fried pommes frites, hache parmentier, and live accordion music.

Once it closed Halls Management Group transformed the space into an addition to the chophouse, replacing cassoulet with Tomahawk steaks. For those of us Francophiles who loved La Fourchette, it all felt rather sudden. Our favorite whisper of a restaurant was gone.

But now Bogard Street may be the new home of Goulet’s second coming. Erika Harrison, Goulet’s attorney, confirms that the chef is planning to open a new French restaurant at 53 Bogard St. 

The location was once a corner store and originally a grocery in the late 1800s. There, Goulet plans to offer his traditional country French fare to neighbors looking for homey food they can’t (or don’t want to) make themselves at home. 

“He wants it to be like their second kitchen,” says Harrison. The attorney adds that Goulet has already addressed some of the neighbors and plans to present more of his concept at a neighborhood association meeting and upcoming meeting of the Board of Zoning and Appeals where he’ll request a variant to allow a restaurant in the predominantly residential neighborhood. 

Goulet couldn’t be reached for comment, but Harrison adds, “It will have a limited menu, but with steak frites, roasted chicken, and ketchup this time — Perig didn’t allow ketchup at La Fourchette. Children and families will be welcome.”
