[embed-1] Huger Street gets a little bit sweeter tomorrow. According to Facebook, Katrina Murphy will open her Once Upon a Treat pastry shop at 624 1/2 Rutledge St. on Sat. May 14.

Once Upon a Treat will sell whole cakes, whole pies, tarts, cookies, breads, and kolache, an Eastern European dough filled with both sweet and savory ingredients. Plus, when we spoke to Murphy back in September, she promised she’ll also sell German chocolate cake and shortbread every day.

Part of Murphy’s plan was to find a way to give low income women an opportunity to work and she’s done just that. “We’ve hired women who live in public housing by working with the Family Self Sufficiency Program through Charleston Housing Authority,” says Murphy. Two of the three women will be working at Once Upon a Treat tomorrow.

For the grand opening, Once Upon a Treat will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. After that the shop will be open Mon. through Fri., 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sat., 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
