I don’t have to tell you it’s hotter than a freshly made prosciutto panini outside right now. And there’s only one thing for it — popsicles. Lots and lots of popsicles. But don’t bother with the grocery store box variety, get a free pop this Saturday courtesy of King of Pops’ new Crooked Crown store at 21 Spring St.

KoP co-owner Andy McCarthy says that to celebrate the opening of their first brick-and-mortar — which happens to also sell poptails, a.k.a. boozy pops — Crooked Crown is giving away free pops on Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.

“Crooked Crown will also have seasonal tamales, poptails, local brews, and specialty cocktails available for purchase,” says McCarthy. “We’ll finish the free pop freenzy with a pop eating contest at 5 p.m. for those brave enough to battle the menacing brain freeze.”

And if you miss the pop-off, Crooked Crown is open daily from noon to midnight.
