Harry Briggs, Jr., once a young Clarendon County student who became the center of the local school desegregation case Briggs v. Elliott died earlier this month in New York City. Briggs, which was filed in 1950, was one of five cases folded into the landmark Brown v. Board of Education ruling that desegregated American schools. Source: AP

Upstate Republican Congressman Jeff Duncan announced yesterday that he’ll host Joe Arpaio, the infamous sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona at his annual “Faith and Freedom BBQ” next week. “Sheriff Joe” also has the distinction as a noted Trumper, birther, accused abuser of power, and convicted racial profiler who reportedly turned a blind eye to hundreds of sex crimes and was once called “America’s Worst Sheriff” by the New York Times.
