[image-1]If you love your margaritas spicy, sweet, tart, and boozy, the Maritime Center was the place to be last Friday.

A rogue lightning storm cleared out just in time for us to sample some of the area’s best margaritas with a few hundred of our closest friends at the City Paper’s inaugural Charleston Margarita Festival. Our completely unscientific assessment of the margs poured on Friday found many that leaned spicy with a few pineapple and watermelon-inspired concoctions and even a couple icy traditionalists that made for a nice balance.

When all was said and done, Cannon Green‘s spicy mint margarita was voted as the crowd favorite. Second prize went to White Duck Taco Shop, and Mex 1 rounded out the podium.

Congrats to the winners and all of the competitors who mixed things up with us: Yobo Cantina Fresca, 3 Matadors Tequileria, White Duck Taco Shop, Cannon Green, Nacha Mama’s Taqueria, Mex 1 Coastal Cantina, Zero Restaurant + Bar, The Shelter Kitchen and Bar, Stereo 8, Apartment A, The Americano, Screen Door, Zia Taqueria, Básico, and Taco Boy.

A special thanks to the Maritime Center, Lowcountry Local First, Corona, David Aylor Law Firm, Harris Teeter, Fox Audio Visual, and Casa Noble tequila.
