Since its founding in 2009, National Theatre Live has reached over 5.5 million viewers in more than 2,000 venues around the world. The premise of NTL is that anyone, (most) anywhere can experience the joy of a live British performance without having to travel to the UK. The show is filmed with a theater audience, but cameras are positioned to ensure that those watching from afar get the “best seat in the house.”
Starting March 19, 34 West Theater Co. will begin screening these NTL performances for $20 a pop. The first show is Saint Joan, broadcast live from the Donmar Warehouse in London. The play, written by George Bernard Shaw, follows the life of Joan of Arc and has been described as a “tragedy without villains.”
Visit 34 West’s website for a full list of all the screenings, running from March through September. [location-1]
