Archie Parnell is a Democrat running for a very real seat in Congress. Coincidentally, that seat is the one once held by a very fictional TV character, Frank Underwood.

Underwood’s ‘unorthodox’ rise to Congress and beyond (no spoilers) may make for suspenseful, intriguing TV, but some of the news these days is making the fictional world of House of Cards seem a bit more believable, a new ad by Parnell says.

In a spoof ad out today, Parnell channels his inner Underwood, even spouting quaint non-sequiturs while staring into the camera, just like ol’ Frank.
[content-1]Parnell, a former Goldman Sachs adviser, is up against Republican Ralph Norman in the special election next month to fill the seat left by Mick Mulvaney, who left to be President Donald Trump’s budget director. Parnell’s candidacy is being pitched by supporters as one of the first chances disenchanted S.C. voters have to fire back at turmoil in Washington and a chance for S.C. Democrats to switch the 5th District blue.

In 2016, the 5th District re-elected Mulvaney with more than 59% of the vote against Fran Person, a nationally-funded Democrat supported by his old boss, Vice President Joe Biden. Donald Trump won the 5th with 57% of the vote.

House of Cards season 5 hit Netflix today.
