Mark your lunching/grocery shopping calendars — on Thurs., June 22, Whole Foods Market will be donating five percent of the day’s net sales to GrowFood Carolina.

GrowFood Carolina is a nonprofit that links farmers with distributors, creating economic opportunities for local growers to conserve the Lowcountry’s ag. landscape. This is the state’s first food hub, and the organization partners with more than 80 producers and 200 retailers, including Whole Foods. Sara Clow, GrowFood Carolina’s general manager, says that “Whole Foods has been a great partner since we opened the doors and the partnership continues to grow and benefit the community more and more. We’re so thankful for this support!”

The theme of the day’s event is “Food as a Community Builder,” celebrating the “role of food in building, connecting, and supporting healthy communities.” In addition to its philanthropic mission, the giving back day will also feature a farmers market with local suppliers and products, a scavenger hunt, and specials on local beer.
