If West Ashley were a person you took on a date, “they’d be equally at home in a dive bar or sipping wine as part of a food pairing,” local comedian Shawna Jarrett says. “There is a 25 percent chance they are not currently in possession of their car title, but they’ll have it back come Friday and you just wait ’til you hear the full story of how it happened.”

This Sat. June 24 at 9 p.m., Jarrett and creative partner Joseph Coker, known as the Comedy Cabal, will show their love for West Ashley as only comics can.

“West Ashley After Dark,” hosted by Vince Fabra at the Tin Roof, will poke fun at the quirks of the suburb, from the dozens of cash-for-title loan offices to the defunct Citadel Mall.

Jarrett loves living in West Ashley and drew inspiration for this show from both the good and the weird of the growing community.

“It’s a celebration of West Ashley’s roots, and the fact that they still poke out of the ground here and there,” she says.

Jarrett and Coker will be joined by Wayne Cousins, one of their favorite comedians from Columbia, as well as a newcomer to the Charleston comedy scene, Kevin Williams.

Guests are welcome to wear “West Ashley regional attire” such as all-denim ensembles or JNCOs and gummy bracelets. Non-West Ashleyan guests are of course welcome to the show.

“I think every town has something like West Ashley — not the wrong side of the tracks at all, but definitely the weird side,” Jarrett said. “This is a show about being proud of your roots, wherever they grow.”

Tickets for the show are five dollars at the door.
