It’s no secret that kitchen staff are in short supply in Charleston. We’ve written about it, Post & Courier’s written about. Numerous programs across the city are doing their best to improve the situation. Now Holy City Hospitality is joining the Lowcountry Food Bank and Palmetto Goodwill to offer their own answer to the staffing shortage — a free, two-week culinary training program with job placement to match the large demand for hospitality industry staff.
Culinary Kick-Start begins with four days of prep-cook training in the Lowcountry Food Bank kitchen where participants will help prepare more than 1,500 meals a day. Next, they will complete two days of on-the-job training in Holy City Hospitality kitchens.
Holy City Hospitality’s restaurants include Michael’s on the Alley, 39 Rue de Jean, Coast Bar and Grill, Vincent Chicco’s, The Victor Social Club, Virginia’s on King, The Islander, 39 Rue De Jean in Savannah, Good Food Catering, and the Historic Rice Mill
Additionally, Palmetto Goodwill will provide training on time management, conflict resolution, and professionalism. After the program, Goodwill will also work one-on-one with participants on resume writing and interview skills. Finally, there will be an opportunity to interview at restaurants such as Victor Social Club, Vincent Chicco’s, and Michael’s on the Alley.
The program runs from August 14 – 25. If you’re interested, apply online before July 14.
