Despite all the bluster on both sides of the aisle in D.C. these days, decisions are made here at home everyday that have a bigger impact on your daily life than the Outrage of the Day you’ll hear about on cable news. On Monday, Charleston County school board members gave the initial OK to raise their own pay by $14,000. Last week, CARTA announced it was ready to move ahead on a new transit hub in North Charleston that could serve as a catalyst for local transportation for decades.
In a city growing as fast as Charleston, it takes a lot of people to help make these decisions. If you’ve been looking for a way to get involved in your local community, Charleston County is looking for local residents like you to fill vacancies on boards and commissions dealing with topics from trash to libraries to parks and rec.
In all, 29 vacancies need to be filled. Applicants will need to apply by July 5 at CharlestonCounty.org. The County Council Finance Committee will consider applications and recommend appointments next month.
Some of these vacancies require a certain proficiency depending on the group, but most just require you to be a county resident. If you’re ready to serve your community, thanks.
