The Folly Boat, which has sat alongside the Folly Road causeway since Hurricane Hugo, washed away as the remnants of Tropical Storm Irma swept across Charleston, according to early reports on social media.
Long a popular landmark for graffiti artists and well-wishers, at least one Facebook video showed the boat, which has been beached alongside Folly Road for nearly 30 years, lapping up against a pier off Sol Legare Road.
We’re sad that the Folly Boat seems to be returning to sea, and we hope it doesn’t cause any more damage to the folks out on Sol Legare or elsewhere.
