Besides being on the road with Doom Flamingo, Kanika Moore has a lot more brewing, including a new album and music video. Find out what all Moore has up her sleeve in this week’s Beat Juice.

What song is stuck in your head today?
“F-16” by Doom Flamingo, “How Deep is Your Love” covered by PJ Morton and Yebba, and “Nakamarra” by Hiatus Kaiyote have been bouncing around in my head. I cover a lot of genres in my line of work, so there’s always music playing in my head. Those three have been pretty strong the past couple of weeks and today.

Last album you bought?
Last album I bought was “Dirty Computer” by Janelle Monae.

Recent musical discovery?
My most recent musical discovery is PJ Morton’s “Gumbo Unplugged” album … really grabbed my ears.

Fave local venue?
My favorite local venue is the Charleston Pour House. I’ve made so many connections there and heard a lot of great music.

What’s your best, go-to T-shirt?

My best shirts usually come from Artisan Tees. They set up a tent on Sundays at the Charleston Pour House. I’ve got about 10 Artisan Tees including the “Charleston total eclipse” shirt, “the unicorasaurus,” “the cool cats,” and “can’t live without music on cassette” shirt.

Your hangover cure is …
My hangover cure is tons of water and Ibuprofen, but sometimes a little hair of the dog.

Last show you went to?
Last show I went to was Umphrey’s McGee last night. Fun fact: that was my first time hearing them live.

What station’s always on your radio dial?
I travel a lot. I usually am listening to music for a specific show, so the radio usually isn’t on a station. Bluetooth!

Your musical style can be compared to?
I hear “soulful powerhouse” a lot.

What band have you been meaning to listen to?
There’s always new music that I have on my to-hear list. I’ve been meaning to listen to
Terraphonics’ album all the way through.

What’s next for you? Shows, videos, song or album releases?
Right now, I’m on the road with Doom Flamingo, Umphrey’s Mcgee, and Chawah band. We (Doom Flamingo) just released “Runaway” on Spotify. Still have more to release. I‘m also working on a jazz cover album to be released before June 2019. We’re also working on a video for one of our songs with Doom Flamingo.
