Tonight, Fri. Feb. 8, the Terrace screens The Favourite, an Academy Award-nominated film, followed by a Q&A with the film’s producer, Atilla Salih Yucer. Cool, right? Tickets are just $11 for adults and $8 for students, military, and seniors, and can be purchased online.
Last fall our movie critic, Kevin Young, listed The Favourite as one of his must-see flicks for the season. He lauded what we can only describe as the perceived strangeness of the film, set in the 18th century and featuring a frail Queen Anne: “If you’re looking for a good date movie, then Yorgos Lanthimos’ (The Lobster, Killing of a Sacred Deer) latest is it. I’m kidding. Don’t take a first date to this movie unless they’re a big Lanthimos fan.”
The Favourite is up for 10 Academy Awards this year including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Olivia Colman is up for Best Actress and both Stone and Weisz got nods for Best Supporting Actress.
You may also know producer Attila Salih Yucer from his work on last year’s Halloween, which was filmed in Charleston. His Q&A follows the 9:30 p.m. screening of the film.
