March Forth day was created on the anniversary of Pat Conroyโs death to commemorate his legacy and spread fellowship among readers and writers in the Lowcountry. As a teacher, Conroy wanted to spread education and the beauty of nature to all and continued this mission until his death by having his burial site on St. Helena Island become a historical literary landmark. The Pat Conroy Literary Center is regarded as South Carolinaโs first affiliate of the American Writers Museum, the second American Library Association Literary Landmark, and TripAdvisorโs top-ranked attraction in Beaufort.
This yearโs March Forth day will feature speakers including New York Times best-seller Nic Stone (Dear Martin); civil rights leader Cleveland Sellers, Jr. and his biographer and Post and Courier writer, Adam Parker (Outside Agitator); Cassandra King Conroy; Tim Conroy, Jonathan Haupt; Ellen Malphrus,Sallie Ann Robinson; and Valerie Sayers (Prince of Scribes:Writers Remember Pat Conroy).
Guests will also have the chance to take a guided nature walk with naturalist Chris Marsh (Spring Island Trust and Lowcountry Institute) and Bob Speare (Hilton Head Audubon).
