Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke will be making a stop at Tradesman Brewing (1647 King St.) starting at 5:30 p.m. The meet and greet will be his first public appearance in Charleston.

Earlier on Friday the former Texas congressman will be meeting with South Carolinians in Rock Hill, Columbia, and Orangeburg before his stop in the Lowcountry. His first visit to Charleston will also include a private meeting with the Lowcountry Students for Political action on Saturday morning and a public town hall with S.C. Sen. Marlon Klimpson.
Although other national politicians have visited barbecue joints and urgent care clinics, this is not the first time a politician has enjoyed local craft suds with constituents — Joe Cunningham did an entire brewery tour.

Former congressman Beto O’Rourke came to national prominence after nearly unseating Texas Senator (and rumored zodiac killer) Ted Cruz. While he is a high-profile candidate, gracing the cover of Vanity Fair, not much has been shared about his specific policies.
Questions that will likely get floated during his Tradesman appearance: Where does he stand on the Green New Deal and the impending climate crisis? What about offshore drilling? IPA or sour? Lager or porter?
