On Sun. May 19 head to Graft Wine Shop for a special release of local artist Meredith Steele’s latest works. Beneath Our Feet: Pigments of Hawaii is inspired by Steele’s recent trip to the island of Maui. Peruse over 30 new pieces from 3-6 p.m. — and snag a glass of wine while you’re at it.

Steele says that this latest body of work focuses on color relationships and beach treasures — something you may find in abundance both in Hawaii, and right here in Charleston.

Steele has described some of her inspiration, and the resulting pieces, in Instagram posts. Consider them sneak peeks of the full collection debuting this Sunday.

As she writes of a piece inspired by the shells and stone fragments you find along the shoreline: “I have always loved searching for treasures along the beach. It is very similar to how I feel while painting. A sort of freedom from ‘reality’ where anxiety, doubt, and worry can’t creep in.”
