S.C., where one in five residents is on Medicaid, is considering a new condition which would require applicants to work, volunteer, or attend school for 80 hours a month to receive Medicaid benefits. Most of the people on Medicaid are low-income children, elderly, or disabled. A few exemptions include children, pregnant women, disabled people, the primary caregiver of a child or someone who is disabled, those over 65, and those who are on Social Security.
