Lyerly’s Cleaners has been serving the Lowcountry for nearly 90 years, so it’s safe to say Will and Sarah Horton had big shoes to fill when they took over the business earlier this year. They’ve met the challenge head on, helping Lyerly’s take top honors as the Best Dry Cleaner. As a kid growing up on Isle of Palms, Will’s dream was to own a small business in Charleston. After meeting in Asheville, the Hortons returned to Charleston and got into the dry cleaning business in August 2018 before eventually taking over Lyerly’s at the start of 2020.
“The Lowcountry has had its own sense of magnificent style for over 300 years,” Sarah said. “Lyerly’s has been keeping that style fresh for 88 of those years and we are so proud to be recognized.” Locals can drop off their dry cleaning, household items and formal wear at one of seven Charleston-area Lyerly’s locations, most of which offer drive-thru services. But Lyerly’s is more than just an efficient place to get your clothes cleaned and pressed; they’re also using environmentally friendly products and focusing on specific customer requests.
