Anderson, South Carolina native and star of billion dollar box office grossing flick Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, died from colon cancer Aug. 28 at the age of 43.

In addition to portraying Black Panther‘s king of Wakanda, T’Challa, Boseman was known for his roles in biopics about Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall and James Brown.

People all over the world remembered Boseman in social media posts this weekend, from former President Barack Obama to U.S. Senate candidate Jaime Harrison. Local organizations and artists remembered Boseman, too, with Lowcountry artist Ment Nelson thanking Boseman for “pushing the culture forward” as a Black South Carolinian.
