Alison Underwood

Landing Contemporary Art will host a new online gallery of “affordable collages,” titled Concealed Objects, beginning Oct. 8. The exhibition is a series of 15 collages from mixed media artist Alison Underwood.

Each piece is composed of imagery from fashion ads found in magazines. Among the images collaged together are fabrics, statues, flower and globes.

Underwood refers to these works as “concealed objects” because they appear to have a structure underneath the image, even though they are two-dimensional collages. “There is no veil to be pulled back,” she said. “The viewer is left to decipher or invent what can not be revealed. Curiosity, mystery, desire, these all exist on the precipice of knowledge. These works hover there.”

Concealed Objects will be open through Oct. 31 on landingcontemporaryart.com.
