Positive rates surpassed 30% again Thursday, as the results of thousands of post-Christmas COVID-19 tests continue to roll in. The Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) reported 31.2% of all tests Thursday came back positive.
From 10,369 new tests reported Thursday, 3,234 were positive, increasing the total number of cases to 283,424. There were an additional 39 COVID-19-related deaths reported as well.
State elected officials and public health experts have spent the week advising residents to celebrate New Year’s Eve at home and avoid large gatherings.
Currently, there are 280 testing sites open statewide, though some sites may be closed or have limited time slots on New Year’s Day. To find a location near you, check scdhec.gov/findatest.
