Summerville novelist Julie Packett’s debut book, The Chronicles of Ms. Clarke’s Class: Science Night, is the first in her STEAM oriented children’s book series Ms. Clarke’s Class.

In these stories, illustrated by artist MacKenzie Fulmer, readers learn about science and technology through the eyes of Ms. Clarke’s fifth-grade class. “I also tried to incorporate aspects of life struggles children deal with all the time (anxiety, loss, fear),” Packett said in an email to the City Paper.

Packett, a former meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Charleston, put science fair projects and STEM/STEAM lessons at the forefront of Science Night. The author is already planning the second book in the Ms. Clarke Class series, titled Battling Bots.

Science Night is available on Amazon.
