Eric Scot | Provided

Painter and sculptor Eric Scot will host an opening reception for his new installation at Highfalutin Coffee Rosters at 6 p.m., Feb. 18.

Scot, of James Island, uses a variety of techniques and mediums to “explore the effects of time, neglect, disruption and abandonment” in society, he said in a press release. Finding inspiration in the “gritty and toothy” side of culture, Scot often starts the process with a photograph of everyday life.

Some of Scot’s work depicts downtrodden or rural areas and abandoned homes, while his sculptures will depict abstract interpretations of the world. He said he tries to represent the “misfit” side of life in his art.

The opening reception at Highfalutin will last from 6-8 p.m. Ward Buckheister of Sol Driven Train will perform.
