What you need to know: Nearly 700 South Carolina long-term care facilities have been fined by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) for failing to correctly report visitor logs during the pandemic. An October public-health order made it a requirement for assisted living homes to submit visitor logs every Monday by 5 p.m., but staffing shortages and COVID-19 outbreaks reportedly caused some facilities to fall behind.

As a result, DHEC has handed out $155,550 worth of fines in the last six months, and over 100 facilities have been fined more than once. Source: The State
