Julie Slonecki, Will Evans and Stratton Moore of Charleston’s experimental band Sexbruise? will be performing a DJ set for the first time ever, in honor of the 12th annual Face Funk Reunion at the Pour House on May 1. Technically, last year should have been the 12th, so this event is billed as “12.5.”
“I’m looking forward to playing a different style set full of fresh remixes, hand mixed by yours truly,” said Slonecki, aka J-Dolla-Sign. “A blend of art nouveau and minimalist abstraction, our set will feature exclusive remixes of Sexbruise? hits, alongside remixes of classics from the ‘80s, ‘90s and today.” Not to mention live desk-topping and snack-throwage from Moore, aka DJ Desktop Moore, who puts on the annual event in celebration of his birthday.

Before the DJ set the trio will be playing in two super group performances. The stage will be occupied with sounds spanning blues, funk, psychedelic and soul punk from band members of Little Bird, Gaslight Street, Weight Station, The Quickening and MJ12.
The show will be limited in capacity and taking precautions to provide the live music experience, which the Pour House has carried on through the pandemic with its back-deck shows. Doors for the $15 show are at 8:30 p.m., and the DJ set will be a 30-minute set full of singing, shredding and throwbacks starting at 11:30 p.m.
Tickets are available from the Pour House.
“It’s going to be a super high-energy, super fun time. It will also be the first time performing indoors in a year, which is crazy.”
