Best City Council Member
Mike Seekings

Ten times in a row just wasn’t enough. Mike Seekings went above and beyond, shooting 11 for 11 and taking Best City Council Member once again. “It’s always fun,” he said. “It’s always nice to get the support of the community. It’s a fun part of the job, and I’m honored.”

Seekings said he’s never really known what it is about him or his work that keeps him at the top of the community’s list for their favorite councilman, but if he had to put his finger on it, it would be his pragmatic approach to the job that resonates with the people of Charleston. That, and his commitment to what he considers the biggest issues facing the Holy City today.

“The three things: it’s water management, mobility and attainable housing,” he said. “These are the three topics we have to work hard on and really make some progress in.”

Seekings said the difference in what he calls attainable housing versus the more popular phrase, affordable housing, is in the name. Factors outside of finances impact multiple people in the community, and recognizing that is an important step in making a difference for them moving forward.

Here’s to No. 12 next year, Councilman.
