Charleston County Emergency Management director Jason Patno was arrested Thursday afternoon by Charleston police and faces charges of burglary, kidnapping and assault, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and Charleston Police Department.

An affidavit dated June 22, 2021 details allegations of burglary from an incident in 2019 by an unnamed victim who is said to have been in a relationship with Patno from 2016 until 2019.

Jail records show Patno was arrested by Charleston police and booked into Al Cannon Detention Center at 3:22 p.m. Thursday, where he remained as of the time of publication.

Patno, 46, was placed on unpaid leave Thursday, pending an investigation, according to a statement from county administrator Bill Tuten. Patno has served as director of the county’s Emergency Management Department since 2007, a spokesman said, and earned an annual salary of $114,212.80 as of August 2020, according to county records.
