What you need to know this week: More cases of the COVID-19 delta variant have been detected in South Carolina. Considered a “variant of concern” by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the delta variant is a more transmissible and potentially more severe version of the virus.

South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control is urging residents to get vaccinated or complete their vaccinations as the variant continues to spread. Not all COVID tests are screened for the variant, but the state is starting to see more cases with ten reported cases of the delta variant reported as of June 28. Research suggests that fully vaccinated individuals are protected from the variant. Source: P&C, News 13
