Avondale bar and restaurant The Roost will open a second location on James Island at 792 Folly Road, the former home of Charleston Sports Pub, which will open a new James Island location at 1789 Maybank Highway.
Charleston Sports Pub owner Perry Freeman said the two-story bar and restaurant will feature bars and outdoor patios on both floors and will open sometime this fall. Roost co-owner Reay Rountree said their new location will debut “hopefully by football season.”
“A couple times in the last 11 years we had looked at doing something like this, and something happened in each opportunity that stopped us. Coming out of COVID, it just felt right,” said Rountree, who lives on James Island. “We want to create the same environment and install it on James Island. We’re not just a sports bar; we look at ourselves as a neighborhood bar.”
The Roost’s original location, which opened in 2010, is located at 825 Savannah Highway in West Ashley. Charleston Sports Pub’s forthcoming James Island location will be its seventh in South Carolina.
