Kozelski, the supergroup put together by frontman and producer Jeff Kozelski, will celebrate the vinyl release of its latest LP, Collector, Friday at the Charleston Pour House.
The live performance will feature drummer Wes Powers of Sol Driven Train, bassist Jon Moore of Shonuff, keyboardist Alan Brisendine of The Outervention and guitarist Will Evans of Sexbruise?.
Kozelski, who is known for his involvement in bands King Hippo and The Outervention, counts these musicians among his greatest friends and collaborators. “I love playing with these guys,” he said.
The night will be a celebration of songs featured on Collector — groove-heavy, lyrical tracks brimming with scrappy guitar riffs. Kozelski crafted these songs on his own, taking inspiration from personal experience and years of guitar study.
“The process started so long ago, and then COVID hit. I had so many leftover songs and ideas from other bands, and I wanted to see what we could do. I just wanted to take control,” Kozelski said of his current musical direction.
The decision to put Collector on vinyl and pair it with a Pour House release party was an act of appreciation for Kozelski’s ardent fan base. “People who listen to vinyl are just really into music. So we want to put it in their hands. It’s all about having a good time.”
The venue will serve as a fitting backdrop for the musical antics. “For me, [The Pour House] is one of those things that I’ve grown up with. It’s always been kinda my go-to spot here.”
Kozelski is looking forward to taking advantage of the air conditioning now that the indoor main stage is open — a blessing for any musician performing in the August heat — and playing with prog-funk opener Baked Shrimp.
Tickets for the 9 p.m. show are $10 and available here.
