The Longboard Restaurant + Bar will open Friday at 2213-B Middle St. on Sullivan’s Island, bringing the second outpost of the U.S. Virgin Islands-based eatery to Charleston. Owned and operated by Ballast Hospitality, The Longboard takes over the space previously occupied by 450 Pizza Joint after a two-year renovation led by Charleston-based firms Cortney Bishop Design and Beau Clowney Architects.

“Bishop and Clowney transformed the former pizza joint into a laidback tropical eatery that is intentionally designed to fit into its surrounding with the right mix of island style and traditional Sullivan’s Island architectural charm,” a press release said.

Longboard executive chef Will Fincher, who traveled to the original Longboard and its sister property, The Easterly, this past year to prepare for the opening, will serve a light, seafood-centric menu, with options like drunken prawns with Carolina Gold rice, grilled oysters and whole fish with mole rojo and charred peppers. Several dishes will be prepared in The Longboard’s custom wood-fired grill, according to the release.

The beverage program will be a focal point at The Longboard. Look for “tropical craft cocktails made from fresh-squeezed juices, house-made syrups, shrubs and liqueurs” along with multiple frozen libations at the restaurant, which offers indoor and outdoor seating.

Starting Friday, The Longboard Sullivan’s Island will be open from 3-10 p.m. daily on a first come, first served basis, with weekend brunch to come in the future. For more information, visit thelongboardsullivans.com
